Kwankwaso insists on probe of Ile-Ife clash

A former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso yesterday met with leaders of both Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ile-Ife and insisted that the incident must be thoroughly investigated and culprits brought to book. Kwankwaso met the northerners at Sabo alongside Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and they both had another meeting with Hausa and Yoruba leaders at the Ile-Ife City Hall.

Speaking with Daily Trust correspondent after the visit, Kwankwaso said his visit was intended to assess the situation and be in a position to offer necessary assistance to those that lost their properties. He said he was in contact with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to secure palliatives for the victims.

Residents of Ile-Ife have lamented that security operatives were allegedly arresting people indiscriminately, but the former Kano governor commended the arrest and urged the government to fish out the perpetrators and prosecute them to prevent northerners from taking the laws into their hands.

Kwankwaso commended Aregbesola for his ‘proactive moves’ that prevented the crises from degenerating. While speaking, Aregbesola assured that the perpetrators would be apprehended and prosecuted.
