The group called on the Pontiff to intervene into the killing of its members and injustice suffered especially the incarceration of Kanu by President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government.

The renewed call was made at a press conference in Nnewi, Anambra state by the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful. He disclosed that the group had made 5,500 calls to Pope Francis who accepted and assured to pray for the agitators and spoke about Biafra and its restoration.

He said: “ The IPOB bombarded Pope Francis with 5,500 calls and the Pope accepted the calls and gave his word to make sure he talks about Biafra and the restoration of Biafra, and yesterday about 35,000 Biafra agitators in Europe, Asia and America visited the Pope at the Vatican City and the Pope and other Catholic leaders addressed them as Biafrans and prayed for them, the first time a world leader at that level addressed us and called us by the name Biafrans and prayed for us.

“We are therefore calling on other church leaders to condemn the killing of innocent protesters and agitators and the detention of an innocent man (Kanu) who did not break the law of a country we are not part of, a country that we are demanding our freedom from that they have forcefully taken and are killing us for demanding our freedom. This evil must be condemned by world leaders, whom we want to pray for us.

“We urge Christian leaders, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Anglicans worldwide, World Christian Society (WCS) and American Christians to pray for Biafra’s actualisation and freedom. This is the time to stand up for truth, because the Boko Haran who are killing people on daily basis have not been visited with the type of extrajudicial killings with which the APC government has visited us .”

The IPOB called on world leaders to prevail on Buhari and his government against the killing of innocent Biafra agitators and innocent Igbo for doing nothing wrong against the state except for drawing attention to their marginalization.
In a related development, IPOB members in Italy had organized a peaceful protest in St. Peter’s square to meet Pope Francis .
